What is a hydrosol?

 

Hydrosols, also called floral waters, are the result of the distillation of plants. During the distillation process, water vapor passes through the plants, carrying with it volatile compounds, essential oils, aromas and active ingredients from the plants. Once cooled, the steam condenses to form a distillate which naturally separates into two phases: the essential oil floats on the surface and the distilled water (water-soluble part) sits below.

 Distilled water loaded with soluble plant constituents is what we call hydrosol. Hydrosols retain the therapeutic properties and active ingredients of the original plants, but at a lower concentration than essential oils. They are often used in aromatherapy, natural cosmetics and skin care for their soothing, refreshing and regenerating properties. Their great advantage is that they are easily assimilated by the body since we are made up of 70% water. The message of plants can circulate freely and quickly.
